A Message from Our President and Founder

Dr. Terry

I appreciate your response to this great call of need, for the people of Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa are struggling daily to survive. Their need for our assistance is immediate and extreme. Any assistance you provide to the African Awareness Campaign will be greatly received.

As pastor of Deliverance Tabernacle Church, I had the opportunity to visit these countries in February of 2000, just before floods and cyclones severely damaged Mozambique. While there, I saw people living in little, one-room houses made of mud, cardboard, sticks and scraps of trash. The unemployment rate in Mozambique is 90 percent and in South Africa it is 70 percent. The black population of these countries lacks the necessary skills and education to maintain a living, but they have great aspirations to change their current situation. Our mission is not only to aid in the relief of their poverty and supply their needs, but also to empower them with knowledge and skills so that they may strive, grow and become independent.

AAC Senior Representative Pastor Benson Nonyane spoke to our congregation, explaining that African Americans are the Biblical Josephs for indiginous Africans. The Bible states that Joseph‘s brothers sold him into slavery, and Joseph went on to become second-in-command in Egypt, where he aided his father and brothers during the time of drought and famine.

As Josephs, we are to do as the Bible commands us in 1 John 3:1 7-18:

But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

This scripture describing Biblical compassion is reflected in our motto, which states that we are a “Voice of Compassion for Africa.”

Thank you for your monetary donations, as well as food, clothing, over-the-counter medical supplies, electronics, and other items that you feel can be used.

In Christ Service,

Dr. Steven V. Terry
